THE ALL TIED UP SWEATER

Who’s ready for a cozy sweater? Introducing; the All Tied Up Sweater!

I’ve always been a fan of those slightly off the shoulder sexy sweaters, so I wanted to make my own version with LionBrand Feels Like Butta that would be nice to lounge around the house in. Fun fact, those sexy sweaters? Don’t always stay up haha. Cue the ties.

To be 100% honest, I wasn’t ready to frog a whole sweater, so I tried my hand at some i-cord ties that would help keep the sweater from slipping off your shoulders. In the end, they are my favourite part of the whole design. Keep scrolling to hear more about the design process and why I did what I did!

THE COLORBLOCK

I’ve always been a fan of the colorblock. Too many times I’m stuck having to choose one of my favourite colours for a sweater, and in turn leaving the other in the dust. Having it color blocked means you get the best of both worlds and don’t have to choose between your two fav colours. I also wanted to make extra special care that the color block lines matched up with the color block on the sleeves. Leaving a symmetrical and classic feeling.

THE COLLAR

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do a deep scoop neck, or a V-neck. So I polled you guys! The V-neck came in as the winner and the rest is history. I wanted to again, make this sweater as symmetrical as possible, so the collar is done in a V-neck on both sides. Picking up, you’ll also make this gorgeous thick ribbing that really ups the drama of this piece.

THE TIES

As mentioned above were a complete happy mistake. Though you’re totally welcome to omit them, they add such a pretty and delicate detail to the garment, that I can’t imagine it without it. It’s totally up to you though! They are made by using an I-cord technique.

THE SHOULDER SHAPING

Though it’s a drop shoulder pattern, I wanted to make sure they didn’t droop too much, so you’ll notice shaping in the top collar by the armholes. This pulls in so that the piece lays better on your shoulder, and doesn’t drop too much. This is especially important in the plus sizes, since that extra fabric can cause unwanted attention, and also makes an ill fitting garment on the shoulders.

WANTING TO MAKE THIS YOURSELF? HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO KNOW:

This pattern is meant for those cozy days curled up by the fire. This design sports a 5.5-7.5”/14-19cm positive ease frame, a thick V-neck border that is mirrored in the back, a colorblock body (perfect so you don’t have to decided between your two favourite colors!), and the cutest I-cord tie details on the back to keep it from slipping off your shoulders. Tie them tighter for a more secure feeling, or tie them loose for an off the shoulder type look and feel. Note: This sweater is worked in the round from the bottom up and then split up into four sections (A,B, C, D) - two V-neck panels in the front and mirrored V-neck panels in the back. After completing these sections you will use the three needle bind off technique to join your shoulder seams together.
