4 DIFFERENT WAYS TO STYLE A CROPPED SWEATER

Gimme a C-R-O-P!

I’l be completely honest with you, it has taken me a long time to get into the cropped sweater style. There’s something about the idea of showing off my midriff that makes me unsettled.

I swear we are really our own worst critics you know what I mean? Even though I’m a medium (and still viewed on the smaller end of the spectrum of knitwear), I still have parts of my body that I’m not happy with - or are uncomfortable with sharing or showing - and one of them would be my tum. No matter what I do I find this unwanted bump right under my belly button that I just can’t get rid of. So when I first saw the cropped craze coming - I was not a fan.

BUT I’ve really grown to love it! In the last year I’ve been watching all body shapes and sizes popping up in my feed rocking this look. So I wanted to put together a blog post not only introducing my new Runway Sweater, but also showing off some great ways you can style a cropped sweater.

1. High waisted pants

Pull out those mom jeans. High waisted pants just got a new life and are perfect when paired with a cropped top. They create a slimming bottom, pull in at the waist, and create a natural hourglass shape.

2. A Skirt

When my pattern testers sent me their photos of their finished items, I literally GASPED out loud as a few of them had paired their sweater with the most stunningly cute SKIRTS! I have seen this trend grow on Instagram, and the best part? It especially looks good on plus size bodies. It perfectly cinches in at the waist and cascades down the hips, meaning it’s comfy and super duper cute at the same time. Don’t believe me? Go check out the #UrsaSweater hashtag on instagram!

3. Over a shift dress

I am a BIG fan of this look. Much like the skirt, it makes such an effortlessly chic and adorable look. Kind of like a “I put myself together look, but I didn’t have to wear pants” type thang. I matched my Confetti Crop back for the Our Maker Life event back in July of last year, and had so many compliments on it.

4. With an undershirt

I know this sounds so basic, but truuust. Gone are the days where your undershirt isn’t allowed to peek out. Switch up the necklines and pair a crew neck undershirt with a V-neck cropped sweater, or even a shirt with a lacy bottom. They look. So. Pretty. Plus they will give you the confidence of not having your tummy pop out if you don’t want it to!

DETAILS

Who doesn’t love a top down, bulky knit? The Runway Sweater is a chunky raglan with a gorgeous ribbed collar, cropped hemline (so you don't end up top heavy), and has the cutest slipped stitch "runway" detail down the sleeves and side of the body. Boxy in nature, this sweater has 6-8" of positive ease but stops high enough to give the illusion of curves and of course, lets your waistline shine. Knit top down, in the round, and seamless, this pattern is written in 7 sizes – S (M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL).

LEVEL

Intermediate. You will need to know how to cast on, knit and purl in the round, read stitches as they come, increase, decrease, pick up stitches and bind off.

The pattern also has a section showing how to alter this pattern for sizes outside of this range.
