THE TULIP WRAP TANK + KNITTING WITH LION BRAND TRUBOO

I swear the best patterns come out of your ass.

Did that sentence get your attention? Lol. But really! The Tulip Wrap Tank came out of NOWHERE! I was sitting watching the “Medici” on Netflix (Umm so good, anyone else watching?), when I got a message from a girlfriend in NYC. She sent me this photo of a gorgeous machine made top that crossed in the front, creating a plunging Vneck. Along with the photo the type read “knit inspo?” Well Megan… yes, yes it was. I LOVE creating things that will fit in my wardrobe and I knew this rendition would be one. Right then and there I cast on with some We Are Knitters Pima Cotton in Salmon that I had in my stash.

After finishing the front two straps, I, of course - did a story on my IG and you guys LOST IT! Problem? The salmon color was just… not good for my skin tone. Kind of one of those that if you saw me from a distance, you would have thought I was naked. SO I hit up my old pals at Lion Brand and asked if they could hook me up with some Truboo. I had heard people raving about it. I had just seen Rachel from Evelyn and Peter do her Sweet Pea top in it, and the Peplum top from By Stephanie Erin had me swooning. I asked them to send me some in Lilac, Mauve and Slate to see how they looked in person. The answer? Unreal.

THE YARN - Truboo review:

My initial thoughts, my thoughts during knitting with it, and my thoughts on the final product made with it. On first impression: I will be totally honest with you - I’m not a big fan of sheen, and when you hold up a ball of Truboo, this is like… shiny disco city. But I will say that I went ahead with it because I had noticed in All About Ami’s Dusk + Dawn Cape photos that it didn’t look as shiny knit up. My suspicions were correct. Though it still does have a sheen to it, once knit up this dramatically goes down. Also note, that this yarn is fudging SOFT.

During: I will note that my gauge was not a perfect match compared to my We Are Knitter pima cotton - which is my usual go to for cotton knits in the summer, so I did have to struggle to make it work. But WAK is known as a worsted, and Truboo is a DK, so I should have known that. I finally did make gauge by going up two needle sizes, which thank goodness because I had already finished most of the pattern math in WAK cotton, and I dreaded doing it again. I will also say that since it’s made from bamboo, this thing does stretch quite a bit, so make sure your gauge is perfect BLOCKED. Although it’s drape-tastic AF, myself and my test knitters who used it did find that it grew on us with wear. Before you yell at me, also know that cotton and bamboo do have a tendency to split because of the way the fibers are. I didn’t notice it too too much (unlike when I have knit with Lion Brand Coboo), BUT I think overall that as long as you don’t have hella pointy tipped needles and prep for that growth due to gravity, this yarn in my honest opinion is well worth it. The end result is stuuunning. The drape on it is gorgeous and it feels like silk on my body as I wear this top. I give it a 8/10 and would happily use it again in another pattern.

Positives:
- The drape
- Colour options
- How soft it is
- Lighter Dk weight style
- This yarn feels so fudging good on your body!
- Not as shiny when knit up

Negatives
- The sheen
- The amount it stretches and grows
- Splits a bit (but that’s just do to cotton/bamboo/linen type yarns, I found Coboo WAY more splitty)

STYLED AND DETAILS

DESCRIPTION:

Think summer knits don’t exist? Welcome to the Tulip Wrap Tank. This knit tank top is cool, drapetastic, and effortless to wear. Knit flat and then seamed, the pieces come together to form the perfect V-neck swoop. Light and airy, but hugging the right places, this piece was designed with 0.5-2.5 inches of negative ease on the bust. With the classic look of stockinette, this tank has delicate garter stitch border, and subtle details that can only be made by a specific combination of decrease stitches. Add a beautiful twist with ribbed straps, and you’ve got a slinky, soft summer tank! This pattern is written in 9 sizes XS (S, M, L, XL) (2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL) so be sure to follow the correct size throughout.
