PINCH ME CROP TOP

Did you know that the Pinch Me Crop Top wasn’t actually supposed to be a Pinch Me Crop Top? To be honest, it started off as something completely different. Just some ribbing, then a whoops, and a big ol’ “PIVOT!”. Back in Feb I was looking into my summer collection and starting to plan it out. I had come out with the SeaSide Scallop Dress for Fall, and when I was making it, I had the brilliancy of taking inspo from it (and a literal chunk) and making it into just a top. You see, the Seaside Scallop dress was made in different sections at a time. First the body, then the skirt, and finally the sleeves. When I had finished the top, I went to try it on and found this hella cute crop staring back at me. I stashed it in the back of mind and went along my way, knowing I would bring it back at some point.

Come February (man I knit far in advance!), I pulled it out of my back pocket. My intent was to knit it with Lion Brand Mako cotton, but there was a nagging feeling at the back of mind to use up some of my Stash. I had three balls of Lion Brand Jeans just holding up space and since I had never tried it, I decided to cast on with the same cast on as I needed for my original Seaside Scallop dress. A worsted is a worsted, is a worsted right? Wrong. Hindsight 20/20 Chantal. Either way, I knew I wanted to have it suck in at the bottom and add more length, so I thought 5-6 inches of ribbing would do. I have learnt three things from this moment. 1) How have I never used this yarn before? It’s GLORIOUS and a total workhorse. 2) Always check your damn gauge in stockinette when the majority of your pattern is supposed to be in stockinette, and 3) Always bring an extra project to Knit Night, incase one doesn’t work out. Turns out my gauge was WAY too big, and I sat there stunned. Knowing I had 2 hours left of knit night, nothing to knit, and I didn’t want to rip…Welcome; The Pinch Me Crop Top.

P.S. I promise to still release this Scallop cropped top some day! Like.. Maybe next summer?
