KNIT YOUR OWN SWEATER SCARF

Is it a wrap? Is it a scarf? Does it have sleeves? Is it a “sneed’ from the Lorax. It’s all of the above! The Wrapped up in Cables Sweater Scarf is essentially a big massive lacy scarf that has cuffs/sleeves on either end. the magic though? how you wear it. You can wear this babe in multiple ways, and each way creates the most stunning wrap look.

Psst… need something for a winter wedding or to pair with your wedding dress or bridesmaids dresses? This is IT.

THE INSPO

This cabley babe was an inspo from my previous and OG Wrap Me Up Sweater Scarf that I made last year. I had a friend send me a video of a machine-made one and was like “WHOAH THAT IS HELLA COOL.”. So I tried creating my own version. The original one is a DK weight, stockinette version that drapes extremely well. I wanted to find a way to incorporate a worsted weight with the newest version, but still have that beautiful drape and this time - add texture.

DESIGN DETAILS

I flipped through pretty much every single page of my stitch dictionaries a billion times over and scrounged Pinterest for the perfect beginner lace section. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do pure cables or not, so I came up with a mix of both cables and lace to create an airy and lightweight wrap that would become a perfect transition piece from season to season.

The middle is made up of a beautiful 12-row repeat of a leaf-like lace, and the sides are adorned with single and three standed cables. I added some additional eyelets on the sides for some extra intrigue.

HOW TO WEAR IT

There are actually three really cool ways to wear this piece:

1) With the cross in front

2) With the cross in the back

3) As a regular scarf

THE YARN

I love a good workhorse yarn, and my go-to for this pattern was Lion Brand Wool ease. It’s a worsted weight category 4 yarn. Meaning it works up quickly, but still has some structure to it. I paired it with larger needles than normal to get the right drape.

PICKING YOUR SIZE

Something else I wanted to change this go-round was the sizing! This piece is written in three hybrid sizes instead of the original and is broken down by SIZE A - 28-38” BUST (which is an XS-M hybrid size), SIZE B - 40-50” bust (which is a L-2X hybrid size) and SIZE C - 52-62” bust (which is a 3-5X hybrid size).

How to choose your size: Find your bust measurements below and work the size according to it. These sizes are based off of womens bust measurements according to the Craft Yarn Council standards, but it is unisex. I would suggest finding your biggest circumference and choosing that size.

Knit in the round, seamless.
