Holiday round up: A knitters wishlist

KnittingChantal Miyagishima3 Comments

How are the holidays so close!?

I wanted to put together what I have on my wish list this year, as well as showcase 8 things that I think would be perfect for the knitter in your life. These all range in price and are things I am currently dreaming of, or already have and think would be a perfect fit to your home! So here we go:

(Please note that there are some affiliate links in this blog post. Should you want to purchase, I do receive a “referral” kick back at no extra cost to you!)

  1. The Jimmy Beans Namaste backpack

I freaking love mine. I have two Jimmy Beans Namaste backpacks now, one in blush and one in navy, and though they are definitely on the higher price point side ($150USD), I love them and I can’t gush about them enough. They are my go to’s every day, and I use them over my purses and all my other bags. They can fit a crap ton of yarn, and have tons of little odds and bobs that make them targeted towards knitters. (Read my blog post review here)

2. An interchangeable needles set

I am a firm believer that every knitter should invest in an interchangeable needle set. Since everyone knits at a different tension, it can be infuriating to sit down to make a pattern to only find out that your gauge isn’t correct, and then have to wait cast on because you have to go out to the store to find the next needle size that may work instead. Though they can be a bit expensive upfront, you’ll save money in the long run. I promise. I personally am a fan of wooden needles, and I like the LYKKE needle set ($85-150 USD) as they have one of the biggest size ranges that I’ve seen in one set. A more affordable but great option is also the Knit Picks set ($49USD). They are really pretty and their cords are easy to swap out with a few other sets, like the LYKKEs. If you’re a metal fan - I have heard nothing but rave reviews on the Chiagoo sets($118USD)

3. A Yarn bowl

If you’re constantly having to ball your hanks or skeins, or maybe you just have a cat that wants to bat around your yarn all the time, I totally suggest a yarn bowl. I was sent this one from Yarn Canada, and I am in love. I’ve never used one before and it’s a total game changer. I got this one: Blue Ceramic Yarn Bowl By Madeleine Coomey($49 CAN) and I love that it’s hand made, and that by using it I’m supporting a small business (Madeleine is from BC!). It’s the perfect size for a full ball of thick n’ quick (if that gives you some reference) wound up and is 7” wide X 3.5” tall. I’ve tried to commission a yarn bowl in pottery before and I know these are not easy to make as the feeder usually causes them to collapse in the kiln, which makes me love this one so much more! This one comes in a bunch of color options too for the inside, as well as there are some gorgeous wooden ones on their site.

4. Wool wash

This stuff is amazing as a stocking stuffer. My favourite one that I use almost soley is the grapefruit Eucalyn. It comes in two sizes, a 3 oz and a 16 oz. It’s great for blocking and washing your knits as you don’t have to rinse it out. It’s just a soak and lay flat to dry.

5. Stitch markers

The stitch markers by COCO knits($24USD) keep coming up in my social media feeds and gawwwd do I want them. I’ve heard only good things, and I also love the fact that they are all different colors, shapes and sizes so that you can differentiate where you want to use them in a pattern. They look so dang CUTE!

6. Faux Fur pom poms

I LOVE adding a faux fur pom pom to all my hats. It’s like the finishing touch that puts the cherry on top of any knit hat. Two of my favourite local Canadian companies are: Rose + Purl (Victorai BC), and Rainbow Designs (New brunswick).

7. Wrist Ruler

I want it. That’s all. These wrist rulers look so bad ass, and I want one so bad cause I think they’re too cool!

8. A notions bag

OK, so this is somewhat of a self plug, but I use my notion bags all the time! I still have a few of these on hand right now, and they are all hand sewn and made by my (and my seamstresses) hands. One saying is for crocheters that says “Just Hook It”, and one for knitters that says “Knitters Gonna Knit”. They go for $25 CAN a bag. I like to store all my scissors, darning needles (So I don’t leave them in the couch to sit on by accident), stitch markers, rows counters etc in them. AKA Making it easy to just throw into my bag for knit nights.

That’s it! At least for now until I want to send a few more to Santa. What would you add to this list? Comment below.
